PS5 HDMI Port Repair: How to Fix No Signal, Flickering & Bent Pins

The HDMI port is by far the most common hardware fault we see on the PlayStation 5. Here's how to spot it, what causes it, and how we fix it with a fixed-price £89 micro-soldering repair and a 12-month warranty.

Signs your PS5 HDMI port is broken

"No signal" on your TV

The console powers on and the fan spins, but the TV shows no signal on any HDMI input — a classic sign of a broken solder joint or bent pin.

Flickering or cutting out

Video works intermittently, cuts to black, or flickers when the cable moves. Almost always a loose HDMI port that needs re-soldering or replacing.

Bent or missing pins

Peer into the port with a torch — if pins are bent, snapped or pushed back into the port, the connector itself needs replacing.

Snow, lines or artefacts

Green lines, purple snow or scrambled video usually points to a damaged HDMI IC chip — a more involved micro-soldering repair we handle in-house.

Console works on some TVs only

Impedance issues from a partially damaged port. It's borderline, but ports in this state fail completely soon after — best replaced now.

Physical damage after a fall

If the port looks angled or the plastic housing is cracked, the pads under the board may be lifted. We can often rebuild damaged pads before fitting a new port.

What actually happens inside the console

The PS5's HDMI port is a small metal socket soldered directly to the mainboard with 19 tiny surface-mount pins. Everyday cable pulls and knocks apply leverage to those pins. Over time — or in a single sharp movement — the solder joints under the port crack, or the pins inside the socket bend against each other and short.

When that happens, the HDMI transmitter chip can no longer send a stable video signal to your TV, and you get the classic no-signal, flicker or artefact symptoms above. The rest of the console is fine — it's a localised, repairable fault.

Why you shouldn't DIY it: the mainboard uses lead-free solder that melts at 217°C, and the pads next to the HDMI port are microscopic. Without a hot-air rework station, preheat plate, microscope and the right flux profile it's very easy to lift a pad and turn a £89 repair into a scrap console.

How to avoid breaking it again

  • Use a good-quality certified HDMI 2.1 cable — cheap cables have loose connectors that put strain on the port.
  • Never move the console while the HDMI cable is plugged in.
  • Route the cable so it hangs straight down from the console, not at an angle.
  • If you take the PS5 to a friend's house, unplug the HDMI first — don't yank it.
  • Sit the console on a flat, ventilated surface so it can't get knocked.

PS5 HDMI repair FAQs

What causes the PS5 HDMI port to break?+

The HDMI port on the PS5 is a surface-mounted connector soldered directly to the mainboard. Yanking the cable, dropping the console, or plugging in a poorly aligned HDMI cable can bend the internal pins or crack the solder joints — both of which stop video output completely.

Can a broken PS5 HDMI port be fixed without replacing the whole console?+

Yes. In most cases we can remove the damaged HDMI port with a hot-air rework station and micro-solder a brand-new port onto the mainboard. This preserves all your data, saves accounts and trophies, and costs a fraction of a replacement PS5.

How much does PS5 HDMI port replacement cost?+

Our fixed-price PS5 HDMI port replacement is £89 including parts, labour, testing and a 12-month warranty. There's no diagnostic fee — if we can't fix it, you don't pay.

How long does a PS5 HDMI repair take?+

Most PS5 HDMI ports are repaired within 3–5 working days from the console arriving with us. We'll send you tracked updates at every stage.

Do you offer a warranty on PS5 HDMI repairs?+

Yes — every PS5 HDMI port replacement comes with a 12-month warranty covering the repair and the new port. If it fails within a year we'll re-do the work free of charge.

Can I post my PS5 to you from anywhere in the UK?+

Yes. We offer nationwide DPD collection and return from £9.99. Book online, we send a label, DPD collect the console and we return it free of charge once repaired.
